Oi! Take your site down!
Posted by: Marketing Guy Date posted: December 11th, 2006 Published in: General, Google, Search Engine OptimisationFunny email posted on Dean’s blog – a request from another site who Dean out ranked (naturally) asking that Dean remove his blog from the Google SERP! The reasoning being that a “business” site is more deserving to have the top spot than a blog…
10 points for insane effort.
In one of the emails the company (not named) sends, the guy says:
I have also contacted my lawyer about this issue, so you should expect a letter in the post very soon.
Huh OK. Welcome to the Internet. Nutcase.
Dean should post the search term and let the SEO community loose on the SERPs – that would bloody show em!
Hat tip to v7n for the story. Also WMW, SEOroundtable and DP on the subject.

[...] I think Scott (Marketing Guy) sums it up best on his SEO Blog with comments “10 points for insane effort” and “Huh OK. Welcome to the Internet. Nutcase.” [...]
This story is a complete fabrication by Dean Hunt to drive traffic to his blog. Lots of info in the comments for the slashdot story: http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/12/13/160241
TBH I think it is gonna be one of these things that we never know, although I would agree there’s a fair chance it is all BS. In fairness, the SD stuff only really speculates based on the fact that Dean said elsewhere on the site that he was gonna try out a viral marketing campaign.
Compared to the recent Sony marketing cock up, I don’t think it’s entirely bad. If it is bull, then so what? It isn’t hurting anyone really – 10 points for creative effort IMO.
His rep might suffer a bit if it is a hoax though.
