Yeh that's blatant spam (IMO) - I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of those pages drop out of the SERPs.

Look at securitychoice.com. They are a national ADT website who has over 8,000 pages indexed by Google. Each page is about 93% the same. The only changes are the city names in the meta tag, title, extension url, and in the text.

They clean up for the pages they have indexed and have been for years.

Can you explain why they where able to do this so effectively while each page is 93% the same?

Thanks!

You're welcome Gregor and welcome to Fused Nation!

Yup, I really think a judgement call needs to be made with local targeting - it's so easy to go overboard!

Thanks for this - some very useful and sensible information on getting a good listing for local businesses. It's too easy to go overboard and dilute the message as well - I especially like you idea of going for regions instead of towns - an elegant move.

Thanks for the article, it's really useful. Glad I didn't take the approach to have a page for each local area.

I recently did a successful local search campaign for a client. It is somewhat US based but still useful -
Here is everything I did:

Thanks Grok! :)

I think local businesses tend to be last on the food chain when it comes to change - but with SEO they really don't need to because it should be affordable and offer good returns.
