Just found your blog today. Really like it - keep up the good work.Domain info more important than you think :-)Domain information such as DNS, age of domain and even the expiration date are used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains. Why are google doing this? Simply to get all the factors they can to get an internal "trust score".This "trust score" is used to eliminate "doorway" pages and spam in the search result.I'M not saying that it's working perfectly - but they are doing a pretty good job.

Google does not seem to like paid inclusions. So maybe some, not all of the links would become worthless if google decides it does not like them. The money spent on paid inclusions would probably be better spent on hiring someone to get you links.

Some can be but to be honest just because you pay for it doesn't make it better - it really depends on the site though.

What do you think of the paid for directories, are they worth doing?

Right now the text link at the top of the page is marked up with H1 tag and points to your homepage. Each different page on your site produces different text for this link (which is good). All I suggest is remove the H1 tag (as you have another area marked up with H1 already).

Cheers

Hi MG

First of all, many thanks for conducting a free seo audit of homme-rock.com.

Whilst I appreciate this is not a full seo audit, I believe you've made a number of valuable points and certainly helped create a strategy/structure to my seo work so far.

I will work through each of your recommendations over the next week.

Just one question at this stage

[quote]Ditch the top H1 tag (keep it as a plain text link though - the way you change it from page to page is good, although it would try to keep the specific product pages mentioning the product type over the generic product category though). [quote]

Not quite sure what you're suggesting in terms of populating the plain text links...

Thanks

I'm more of a fan of giving each group of product its own section, hence removing the targeting from the homepage and moving it to separate pages. It's a hard call given that homepages inevitably rank better than deep content, but I still think there's value in creating sections for specific product / keyword targeting.

Of course another way to approach it, if Jason doesn't want to remove the current SEO efforts from the homepage is to create the deep sections first, without changing the homepage too much.

When the deeper content begins to rank for keywords that the homepage is currently targeting, then changes to the homepage can be implemented.

It's a fairly easy site to review really - there's not a whole lot wrong there (no spam, no dodgy link networks which in my experience are the main problems sites end up facing with DIY SEO). In fact, probably the best advice I could give is to just keep on the same track as you're going just now - avoid the spam stuff and keep on with the core basic SEO - the rest as Kelvin says, is down to personal style of SEO (small tweaks, preferences, etc).

You are giving that away for free?

Joking aside there's a few things I'd do differently but I think thats down to different style rather than one being inherently better than the other like the title tags where I'd try and include some of the product types, maybe not as a keyword list like at the moment but I definitely think there would be benefits to having rings, or cuff links in there depending on search volume...

Other than that seems a fair assesment
