Removed some comments on the Bigmouthmedia post
Posted by: Marketing Guy Date posted: May 6th, 2008 Published in: About Fused NationI’m not usually in the habit of removing comments from a post (regardless of what they say), but I removed a series of comments from the Bigmouthmedia post made over the weekend which really didn’t sit right with me. It wasn’t the content of the comments or the angle - it was loads of little things that led me to believe the poster either:
- Was a Bigmouthmedia employee trying to turn the focus of the thread into a more favourable light and /or discredit competitors.
- Was a Bigmouthmedia competitor trying to fuel the flames.
Either way I don’t care. Anonymous posting is lame, particularly when there’s no good reason to be anonymous (i.e. when disclosure would actually mean your comments carried more credibility). I humoured the comments with replies for a while but after I thought about it over the weekend I didn’t see any real value in leaving a basically fake conversation live on the post.
I’ve no problem with BMM competitors coming here and poking fun at them, BMM employees coming along to offer their opinions or even people posting anonymously on more generic topics - but the line is drawn at anonymous comments making wild claims. If you’re going to do that, then at least step up and put your name to it.
I’ve run forums and blogs for 7 years now and believe me when I say I’ve seen pretty much all kinds of spam and hidden agendas there is - I’ve developed quite a talent for spotting spam when it crops up.
I’m not going to go into detail about my reasons for removing the comments - I don’t see any point in educating anonymous fearties on how to spam better!
Anyone who has read the Bigmouthmedia post might also note that there are other seemingly anonymous comments on the thread (no URLs listed and generic usernames given) - the identities of those were confirmed privately one way or another at the time of posting.

Here’s a non-anonymous comment for you! Keep up the good work but add a little marketing interest to your posts: we don’t really care about BMM!
Noted.
